Smart Home Scheme Grants of £6,000 for SWI
The new GDHIF scheme has just been announced offering grants of up to £4,000 for solid wall insulation (SWI) for homes, however this is £2,000 less than when the scheme originally launched during the summer of 2014. If you happen to live in Haringey, Islington, Camden, Waltham Forest, Hackney or Enfield you can still access the full £6,000 though through a scheme known as the Smart Homes Programme!
What is the Smart Homes Scheme?
The Smart Homes programme is a scheme specifically designed to improve the energy efficiency of homes in the area.
The Smart Homes programme has received funding via the governments Green Deal Community Fund – giving local residents access to £6,000 grants to help improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
The Smart Homes scheme has only recently launched, but is only set to run until 31st March 2015, so if you are looking to take advantage it worth acting fast!
Smart Homes will provide the residents a Grant of up to £6,000 to contribute to the cost of installing energy saving home improvements including solid wall insulation or difficult to fill ‘cavity walls’ as well as a subsidised £50 Green Deal assessment (our normal price for this assessment is £132!).
How Does the Smart Homes Scheme Work?
The process is relatively simple too! The first step will be a visit from a Green Deal Assessor – who will assess the property and produce a series of energy saving improvements relevant to the home. Following this, a Smart Homes Advisor will visit the property and discuss the recommendations and look at viability of carrying out the works.
If you would like to go ahead, you can then get quotes from approved installers and if you are happy with the price you can then proceed to have the works carried out.
On top of the £6,000 Smart Homes grant, you will also be eligible for ECO (the Energy Company Obligation), which could be worth as much as an additional £2,000 worth of funding.
Your Smart Homes Advisor will help you gain any planning and building control permissions.
Also it is worth mentioning the scheme is open to both home owner-occupiers and landlords (or tenants with landlord consent).
How do I register for the scheme?
If you are interested in taking part in the scheme you can call us on 0208 144 0897 or fill in the form below and we can help you get started.
If you live in any of the 6 boroughs – Haringey, Islington, Camden, Waltham Forest, Hackney or Enfield – you can take advantage of the Smart Homes programme – this gives you access to more funding than GDHIF! You need to act fast too – this scheme is only running until the end of March 2015.
I already have a EPIC and GDAR Occupancy Assessment Report.
I applied via the government green deal website for the gas boiler because I was informed that the funds for boilers at Smart Homes is finished. The government website now has notification that the funding for the solid wall insulation is finished. I am unsure if I can do the solid wall insulation through you even though I have applied for the Gas boiler through the government green deal.
I would appreciate you call as to whether I can do the cavity fill and external wall insulation
Hi Barbara, thanks for getting in touch – I have edited your comment to remove your number so others can’t use it! We will give you a ring though and see if we can help.
Hi
Would I still be able to qualify for the government funding for a new boiler.
Hi Freda, if you live in those 6 boroughs (Haringey, Hackney, Camden, Islington, Enfield and Waltham Forest) then you can still get up to £6,000 of funding towards energy efficiency measures under the Smart Homes Scheme, BUT you have to do solid wall insulation (internal or external solid wall insulation). So you can still get boiler funding under the Smart Homes scheme but you have to install solid wall insulation. Hope this helps.
I have to say this is the most informative page I have seen on the Smart Homes Scheme. I have telephoned Camden council several times and they give a different answer every time. On the page here is says the scheme runs out on the 31st March, is this true? I am desperate to get external wall insulation to my detached property and would like your help for this to happen. I just missed out on the GDHIF funding, but then at £3,750 it makes hardly a difference. I think on my property I am probably looking at £14,000 at least and a £6,000 grant would be a big help. Once I have the insulation I would also like to upgrade my heating system and install an air source heat pump with underfloor heating. Do you know installers under the Smart Homes Scheme that offer the air source heat pump installation.
Hi Ali, the Smart Homes scheme is definitely a really great initiative. We recommend people move fast though to make sure they get their hands on their bit of the funding. It is worth bearing in mind that if re-rendering your property is on your list of things to do then by going this route, you can access the £6k grant + an insulated house so lower energy bills + a new 25 year guaranteed render finish!
Hi folks, a few more days to go until the Smart Homes Scheme closes down. If you need help with external wall insulation, please let us know as we can turn around the various surveys to help you ring fence the £6,000 funding. But you will need to move very quickly!
