Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF) – latest news on relaunch
We have just had official confirmation from DECC that the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (or GDHIF as it is more commonly known) is due to relaunch on the 10th December 2014 at 9am.
An additional £30m of funding has been made available by the Government for this second phase of the scheme – although it is now split into two pots, £24m for solid wall insulation and £6m for the two measures from the list of home improvements under the scheme.
The relaunch of GDHIF this December will see a reduction in the amount of funding available for solid wall insulation – this has been reduced from £6,000 under the old scheme to £4,000 under the revised version. It also will now only cover 67% of the total cost of works, while under the old scheme it covered 75%.
While the funding is obviously lower, in our opinion it is still a fantastic time to take advantage of the offer if you live in a solid wall property!
The other major change this time round is that flue gas heat recovery units are not allowed, therefore people installing boilers with these units will no longer be able to do so. You will however still be able to install a boiler + another measure and get the £1,000 back.
The £100 towards the Green Deal Report is still in place (which allows you to access GDHIF) as well as the £500 new home owners bonus for those that have bought a property in the last 12 months.
This means you can still get a non-means tested grant totalling £5,600 to improve the energy efficiency of your home – so pretty good in out opinion.

GDHIF – how do I apply?
When the previous scheme was up and running, earlier in 2014, it proved to be extremely popular and in fact over subscribed, resulting in the funds being spent rather too quickly. Many customers were disappointed to miss out on the vouchers, which has probably prompted the Government to act and re-instate the scheme.

Remember, our Green Deal Assessments are just £132, but if you decide to go through with the GDHIF scheme you are eligible for a £100 rebate on the cost of assessment so the total cost to you is just £32!

Do you know what is happening in Scotland? As far I understand this £100m allocated is going to England & Wales. Not sure if they will have the same thing here.
Hi Trevor. No news as yet, however sit tight and there should be a parallel scheme for Scotland that will be released soon.
I heard that the methodology and software used to create EPCs is being updated from early November to make them more accurate. This will allow the EPC and/or GDAR to make more recommendations than they can today. Wouldn’t it be better to thus wait till November to get the GDAR (when rdsap 9.92 is being used)?
Also, I’ve already had one measure carried out on the GDHIF scheme. Will I be able to reapply for more measures?

Thanks for the question. We are still waiting to hear from our accreditation body the exact changes to the EPCs and how this will affect people’s recommendations – we will be posting a blog on this oin the next week or two as soon as we hear. We also don’t know the exact structure of the gdhif scheme, whether the numbers will be the same or whether the format is changing completely. I think it is very unlikely having a measure installed already will affect you being able to claim again however. This was not an issue in the past.
This is great news. I only heard about the GDhIF cashback scheme a day or so before the government scrapped it. Ready and primed to take advantage this time though!

Hi, I was one of the lucky ones that managed to get the full £6000 towards solid wall insulation. But after going through several companies for quotes, I finally found one that I believe I can trust. Unfortunately they are very busy now and with the bad weather approaching they aren’t sure if they can complete or even start the job until the new year. This wouldn’t be a problem for me, except the voucher expires in January.
My question is this, does the clock on the voucher stop when the contract is issued, started or comp!eted?
I have tried to contact Green Deal people but I’m not getting a response.

Nothing yet – we know it is in November and we spoke to DECC and they said an announcement is imminent (so we are expecting 11:59pm on 30th November!)
We are going to let everyone know that we have assessed as soon as it goes live.
I hope they allow you to take a single measure under this scheme. We are desperate for a new boiler!

Hi Ajay, We are not sure to be honest! I assume you are referring to the GDHIF scheme – the Government said they will announce it before the end of November so fingers crossed we here back in the next couple of days!

Is it possible to find out if I qualify for a grant BEFORE I spend a lot of money on a survey – or is it a Catch 22 situation where I HAVE to buy a survey before I can find out that possibly I do not qualify?

Hi Peter,
Its not really a question of qualifying. Everyone is eligible for the scheme (no benefit criteria or anything of that sort), but it depends on what you already have in your property as to what you will get a grant for.
If you give the assessor organisation a call, they should be able to talk you through the scheme and give you an idea what you might get out of the assessment. With a few details of your property and what you are lookin for, they should be able to let you know whether you will benefit.
